Apple unveils first foldable smartphone iPhone Duo

Apple has introduced its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, marking a significant shift in the company's flagship product lineup. The device, resembling a passport in size and shape with rounded edges, features both a wide horizontal screen and a smaller single screen when folded. It holds the distinction of being Apple's thinnest phone to date.

This unveiling, the first under new CEO John Ternus, represents the most notable overhaul of a flagship product since the removal of the physical home button from the iPhone X in 2017. The company's latest fiscal year saw iPhone sales contribute over half of the total revenue, amounting to $209.6 billion. Ternus emphasized the iPhone's role as a personal AI hub, prioritizing privacy and data control, stating that trust depends on individuals having control over their data.

AI products, including an updated Siri assistant capable of interacting with 300,000 apps, were showcased alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the newest iterations of Apple's renowned smartphone series. Apple also unveiled a new standard to verify the authenticity of AI-generated images and supported the emerging SynthID standard for detecting AI-manipulated images.

The feature will not be accessible in the EU and China. The company also disclosed pricing for the new models, starting at $1,199 for the iPhone 18 Pro and $1,299 for the Pro Max. Additionally, Apple introduced advanced health-focused upgrades to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, featuring enhanced heart rate monitoring and improved sensors.
