Anwar: PM’s Cup debate nurtures confident, critical young minds

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the importance of the Prime Minister's Cup Debate Competition in fostering confident, critical, and respectful young minds. He described the competition as more than just a platform to test debating skills, but also a means to develop courage, deepen knowledge, and sharpen critical thinking abilities.

The competition serves as a space for young people to learn how to organize their thoughts and defend their positions while respecting differing viewpoints. Anwar Ibrahim expressed his admiration for the finalists of the 51st edition of the competition, noting their awareness of current events and their willingness to question and critically examine various issues.

He stressed that a healthy democracy requires not only the courage to speak up but also the ability to listen and respect differences. The Prime Minister's Cup Debate Competition was first established in 1974 and was introduced as part of the vision of Malaysia's second Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, to cultivate dynamic, intelligent, and capable future leaders among students at residential schools.
