Anwar: Govt to provide assistance, support to families of five killed in Sarawak helicopter crash

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — The Malaysian government pledges comprehensive aid and support to the families of the five individuals who perished in a helicopter accident near Long Lellang, Sarawak, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The tragedy occurred yesterday when a Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter transporting four Health Ministry officials and a pilot plummeted near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport in Ulu Baram.

Anwar expressed profound sorrow over the incident, stating that his thoughts and prayers, along with those of his wife, Azizah, are with the bereaved families during this profoundly challenging period. He implores the public to respect the family's need for privacy and to refrain from spreading unverified speculation while awaiting official confirmation from the relevant authorities.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) officially confirmed that the BO-105 helicopter, en route from Miri, was carrying five individuals, including the pilot, when it tragically crashed near Long Lellang STOLport, approximately 929 kilometers from Kuching. Among the deceased, identified by their loved ones, were Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, who was 31 years old, and Dr. Ainul Baraah Kamarudin, who was 32.
