Anele Tembe inquest hears conflicting accounts as court postpones the case to October

The inquest into the death of Anele Tembe, the fiancée of late musician Kiernan "AKA" Forbes, is ongoing in Cape Town. An employee of the Pepperclub Hotel testified during the second day of proceedings on September 9, 2026, describing his encounter with Forbes and his entourage after Tembe's tragic fall from the hotel's 10th floor on April 11, 2021.

The employee recounted that the group had ordered alcohol, but he instructed the staff not to serve them, given the circumstances. Forbes was reportedly not upset about the refusal. Earlier testimony revealed that Forbes claimed his fiancée had threatened to jump during an argument earlier that day, though he did not believe she was serious.

The inquest has been postponed to October 19, 2026, as the court continues to gather evidence from up to 30 witnesses to determine the events leading to Tembe's death. The proceedings come amid the recent death of Forbes, who was shot alongside his friend Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane outside a restaurant in Durban in February 2023.
