Andhra Pradesh CM to review welfare during Collectors’ Conference on September 10, 11

Kenyan drivers face increased uncertainty as global oil prices surpass Ksh13,000 per barrel, just days before the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) determines maximum retail fuel prices for September. Brent crude, a key benchmark, has risen by nearly a quarter since early August, driven by heightened tensions between the United States and Iran and concerns over Middle East supply.

While a higher Brent price does not directly translate to a similar increase at Kenyan pumps, the situation is more complex. Kenya imports nearly all its fuel from the Middle East, and EPRA's review takes into account the cost of imported petroleum products and other components of the regulated price. The August review resulted in a Ksh5 per litre reduction in Nairobi's maximum diesel price, while petrol and kerosene remained unchanged.

However, the current prices are set to remain in force until September 14, as the September review approaches amid a sharper global price move. The question for Kenyan motorists is how much of the international increase will be reflected in the costs used for EPRA's September calculation. Factors such as a sustained period of higher crude and refined-product prices, favorable exchange-rate movements, or additional government intervention could influence the outcome.
