Bill Simmons has once again defended his controversial opinion on the length of tennis matches, particularly during the US Open quarter-finals. In an earlier social media post, the sports podcaster expressed his disdain for matches that run over 4.5 hours, citing the recent five-set battles between players as evidence. He argued that no form of entertainment should take such an extended period, regardless of the skill displayed by the athletes.

However, the recent US Open quarter-final match between Ben Shelton and Carlos Alcaraz, which ended in a five-set thriller, seemed to provide Simmons with some ammunition against his own stance. Tiafoe and Michelsen's match, where they combined 22 unforced errors in the first seven games of the fourth set, was also highlighted by Simmons as proof of why he believes matches should be shorter.

Despite the fact that these quarter-final matches were viewed as some of the greatest in US Open history, Simmons remains resolute in his belief that they should be cut short. He expressed his desire to "carve out the next 3 hours" for the fourth and fifth sets, suggesting that the current format is simply too lengthy for a form of entertainment.
