8 Arab, Islamic countries welcome UK Government decision to ban import of goods from illegal Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory

Pakistan joined seven other Arab and Muslim nations in praising the United Kingdom's recent ban on imports from illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank. UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband expressed disappointment at the Israeli government's alleged disregard for the well-being of settlers, describing it as "ethnic cleansing."

Meanwhile, a coalition of 12 countries, including Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden, also announced plans to follow suit, stressing that Israeli actions hinder a two-state solution. The joint statement from the ministers emphasized the importance of adherence to international law and UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 2334 (2016) and the International Court of Justice's July 19, 2024, advisory opinion.

The ministers called on Israel to revoke all settlement-related measures and reiterated their support for the two-state solution, a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital. Pakistan expressed solidarity with Palestine, vowing to stand by its people in their quest for self-determination. Israel retaliated by closing the UK's consulate in Jerusalem, expelling British monitoring representatives from the US-brokered Gaza ceasefire plan, barring British trainers from working with Palestinian Authority forces, and forbidding 12 British MPs from visiting Israel.

UK Foreign Secretary Miliband responded by dismissing Israel's actions as "regrettable and damaging," asserting that vital intelligence and security ties with Israel would persist, as well as their commitment to working alongside Israeli partners to counter threats from Iran.
