Zverev brushes aside Darderi to reach US Open quarter-finals

Alexander Zverev, the top-seeded German tennis player, advanced into the US Open quarter-finals after a decisive victory over Italian Luciano Darderi on Monday. The 29-year-old defeated Darderi with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(3) in a thrilling match. Zverev, who had endured two five-set matches earlier in his US Open campaign, displayed remarkable focus and determination as he powered through the first set, despite Darderi's initial pressure and a misplaced drop shot.

In the second set, Zverev capitalized on a second break, establishing a commanding 4-0 lead. While Zverev faced increased challenges in the third set due to Darderi's powerful first serve and effective drop shots, he managed to regroup and secure a victory. This win marked Zverev's achievement as the sole player to reach the quarter-finals at all four Grand Slam tournaments in the same year. He will now face Dutchman Botan van de Zandschulp in the semi-finals.
