‘At a loss’: Andhra Pradesh High Court slams police after teen boy sent to jail in theft case

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has strongly criticized the actions of a police officer for sending a 17-year-old boy to jail in a theft case. The court ruled the remand order as "illegal, unsustainable" and without jurisdiction. SHO of the local police station was ordered to release the boy immediately and pay a fine of Rs 10,000 to the High Court Legal Services Committee.

The case began when six unidentified individuals took the boy from his home without revealing their identity. His father alleged that the police registered a theft case against his son, who was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on August 19. However, the court found that the boy's correct date of birth was September 12, 2008, not 2006 as the police initially believed.
