US, Mexico carry out ‘High Eagle’ operation to ground cartel drones along border

Mexico and the United States have initiated an anti-drone operation along their shared border in Baja California and California, according to the Mexican Ministry of National Defense. The joint effort, dubbed the "High Eagle" operation or "Binational Anti-Drone Operation," aims to ground criminal drones used to smuggle people and drugs into the United States.

The operation, led by General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, spans from August 31 to September 21 and involves two stages, with the first already completed. The second stage began on September 7 and will continue until September 21. During the operation, forces from both countries will deploy anti-drone equipment and conduct reconnaissance missions along the border.

The United States Northern Command reported that over 300 drones were neutralized along the U.S.-Mexico border in 2022, many of which were linked to illegal activities such as smuggling and surveillance.
