UP Textile Sector Gets ₹5,354 Crore Investment Push, Says Minister Rakesh Sachan

Lucknow, September 08: Textile Industry Minister Rakesh Sachan highlighted that the policies of the Yogi government and the state's investment-friendly environment have bolstered the textile sector in Uttar Pradesh, alongside infrastructure development. Sachan reported that the state's handicraft exports stood at approximately Rs 35,000 crore during the fiscal year 2025-26.

Over 2 lakh handloom weavers are involved in this sector, exporting more than Rs 110 crore worth of goods. He emphasized that UP's textile products have garnered recognition both nationally and internationally. Sachan announced that the government is actively encouraging investors to boost the textile industry in the state, with investment proposals worth Rs 5,354 crore already approved.

Under the textile industry policies of 2017 and 2022, incentives worth Rs 322 crore have been provided to 116 investors, with additional incentives worth around Rs 96 crore also granted. Entrepreneurs benefit from various facilities, including capital subsidies, 100 percent exemption in stamp duty, 60 percent interest subsidies, concessions in land allotment, and electricity costs.

Entrepreneurs participating in national and international fairs receive subsidies of up to 90 percent. Sachan noted that UP's textile sector, including garment manufacturing in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad, Kanpur's hosiery industry, Varanasi's silk sarees, Bhadohi-Mirzapur's carpets, Lucknow's chikankari, Pilkhuwa's home textiles, Meerut's sports apparel, and Farrukhabad's textile printing, have become the state's identity.

Among these, 17 products have received Geographical Indication (GI) tags. The Yogi government supports weavers in design, branding, packaging, and digital marketing. In Varanasi, financial assistance worth Rs 84 lakh has been granted to 443 students to connect traditional skills with the modern market. Meanwhile, a PM MITRA Park is being developed on 1,000 acres between Lucknow and Hardoi at a cost of Rs 1,100 crore, featuring six-lane roads, a 125 KV electricity line, and water supply.

The master developer has been finalized. Sachan informed that CM Yogi Adityanath aims to develop 10 textile parks across the state, with land availability for Shilp Parks in Amroha, Bijnor, Sant Kabir Nagar, Bareilly, and Banaras. Entrepreneurs will gain investment opportunities across around 400 acres, with land offered at affordable rates.

Land identification is also underway for textile manufacturing parks in Kanpur and other locations. Sachan reiterated that, similar to the policy set in 2022, the upcoming policy in 2027 will incorporate entrepreneurs' suggestions. With tourism expanding and a domestic market of 25 crore, significant investment opportunities exist in textile and ODOP products. He invited entrepreneurs to make substantial investments in Uttar Pradesh.
