University Expo targets over 50,000 who skipped KUCCPS applications

A massive education expo featuring 32 universities from across the globe is set to take place next week in Nairobi, targeting over 50,000 Kenyan students who did not apply for local public university places this year. The Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Services (KUCCPS) recently reported that out of 268,714 students who scored a mean grade of C+ and above in the 2025 KCSE exams, 212,510 have applied for courses, leaving nearly a quarter of qualified students without local applications.

Some universities offer courses not available in Kenya, including Artificial Intelligence training, a highly sought-after skill. The Imperial Education Consultants' Director, Mohammed Karama, stated that the expo provides a platform for students and parents to meet directly with university officials, and it will be held free of charge.

IEC links students with over 400 universities in 20 countries and ensures students make the best choices for their education. Terry Muriungi, a regional representative for Constructor University, explained that students need not learn the host country's language to study there, as classes are conducted in English. Castro Tsuma, who studied at Constructor University in Germany, shared his positive experience working alongside friendly locals and earning income between classes.

Many universities offer scholarships for top-performing students, alleviating financial burdens for families. The International Education Consultants (IEC) based in Nairobi, which connects East African students to universities in countries like the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Germany, UAE, Malaysia, Switzerland, Spain, Mauritius, Turkey, and India, will host the expo at Sankara Hotel in Nairobi from September 19 to 22.
