UAE's neutrality is important for global diplomacy, says ambassador to Germany

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) plays a crucial role in global diplomacy, according to the country’s ambassador to Germany, Ahmed Alattar. Speaking to The National in Berlin ahead of President Sheikh Mohamed’s state visit to Germany, Alattar emphasized the importance of the UAE's neutral stance in conflict resolution.

The ambassador highlighted the UAE's role in mediating the exchange of almost 8,000 Russian and Ukrainian prisoners since the war in Ukraine began in 2022. He stressed that the UAE’s neutral position as a "third place" is vital in today's world, where stable and reliable partners are needed to address future challenges.

Alattar also discussed the UAE's growing defence industry, which has transformed it from an importer to an exporter of security, with a significant presence in Europe. He noted that this trend will continue, making the UAE an exporter of security, not just an importer.

The ambassador explained that Germany stands to benefit greatly from closer ties with the UAE. Beyond being an important energy supplier, the UAE is a source of investment capital, a global logistics and aviation hub, and an emerging base for German manufacturing. Alattar asserted that the UAE is a reliable partner that fulfills its commitments, making it a rare find in today's world.

The UAE's relationship with Germany was underscored by the country's swift condemnation of Iran's attacks on the UAE and its solidarity expressed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Alattar highlighted that visits to the UAE are significant and contribute to strengthening bilateral relations.
