UAE's neutrality is important for global diplomacy, says ambassador to Germany

The UAE's role in global diplomacy is becoming increasingly significant, according to the country's ambassador to Germany, Ahmed Alattar. Speaking to The National in Berlin before President Sheikh Mohamed's upcoming state visit to Germany, Alattar emphasized the importance of the UAE's neutrality in conflict resolution. In preparation for the visit, Alattar highlighted the UAE's role in mediating the exchange of nearly 8,000 prisoners between Russia and Ukraine since the war began in 2022.

He further stressed the UAE's humanitarian support for Ukraine across various fields and its role as a neutral third party in peace talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and NATO. The ambassador also noted the UAE's growing defense industry, which positions it as both an exporter of security and a major arms exporter, with a global presence.

When asked about maintaining a neutral stance amidst opposing powers, Alattar explained that the UAE acts according to its own interests, playing a large role to the maximum of its capabilities. He argued that Germany benefits greatly from closer ties with the UAE, going beyond oil and gas to include investment capital, global logistics, aviation, and manufacturing.

The ambassador stressed that Germany can rely on the UAE, as it consistently honors its commitments, making it a rare and valuable partner in today's world.
