Two in custody over suspected cocaine seized at Wa bus station

In the Upper West Region, two individuals are currently in police custody after narcotics suspected to be illicit drugs were seized at the ESP bus station in Wa. The suspects, S.K. and another person, were apprehended separately as law enforcement agencies, in conjunction with National Security operatives, continued their investigations into the suspected movement of illicit drugs through the region.

S.K., who arrived in Wa on a commercial bus from Kumasi, was arrested on Sunday, September 6, 2026, shortly after his arrival, allegedly found with a bag containing suspected narcotic drugs. Following his arrest, S.K. allegedly began making phone calls to individuals believed to be connected to drug distribution, prompting security operatives to take him into custody.

The exact composition of the substances is yet to be determined as they await forensic analysis. The Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, confirmed the arrests to Joy News but cautioned against drawing conclusions until the forensic examination results are available. Yiribaare stated that the case is under investigation and that two suspects are currently in custody.

The suspects will be processed for court as soon as investigations are completed and they will not be held beyond the legal time limit. The exact nature of the seized substances remains unconfirmed until the forensic results are out.
