Gata’m Fest arrives in Gata de Gorgos with tractors and posidonia

From September 17 to 20, Gata de Gorgos will play host to Gata’m Fest, a four-day festival celebrating music, innovation, and the local culture. Following the popular Gata’m concert series during the summer, this collective event brings together emerging talent from the Marina Alta and beyond, showcasing a unique blend of live performances and artistic exhibitions.

The festival opens on Thursday, September 17, at 7:30 pm with the inauguration ceremony at the Guillem Agulló building, followed by a welcome reception. The exhibition "Memòries d’aigua: Listening to the Posidonia," created by artists Marina Mulet, Aina Zanoguera, Kim Taylor, and Alba Vega Mulet, begins at 8:00 pm. This exhibition, featuring scheduled sessions with limited capacity, can also be visited daily at 7:00 pm and 7:30 pm at the same venue.

Friday, September 18, features a standout performance at 8:00 pm called "Ressonàncies de la Terra – Concert for Tractors and Percussion." This open-air concert transforms tractors, trailers, steel plates, and scrap metal into instruments, performing alongside the percussion ensemble Connecta Percussió. The festival's "Arrapasons" strand showcases the unique connection between rural life and artistic expression.

Saturday, September 19, is packed with activities, starting with percussion masterclasses at 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. The Orchestral Percussion Masterclass, led by percussionist and teacher Guillem Serrano, and the Latin Percussion Masterclass with Nazari and Adrià Ribes, provide an enriching experience for the young talent in the region. The afternoon culminates at 5:30 pm with a mass gathering called "Drums on Tour," where drummers from the Marina Alta and beyond join together for a collective concert.

The evening of Saturday sees the Gata’m Glitch audiovisual contest, showcasing digital and audiovisual creations with a €500 prize awarded to the winner. The festival concludes on Sunday, September 20, with "Gata Camina," a musical heritage walk through Gata. Rosario Caselles on guitar and Celia Pedrós on flute will provide live music along a guided morning route, narrated by local historian Miguel Vives. The walk will end at Placeta Tetuán with a closing concert at 12:30 am.
