Trump threatens to block Canada's Bombardier planes from US market

On Monday night, US President Donald Trump threatened to block Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier from selling planes in the United States unless the company begins production domestically, intensifying a trade dispute between the two nations. This comes as Canada's retaliatory tariffs on billions of dollars' worth of US products commence on Tuesday.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared, "NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products aren't good enough!" He added, "If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a piggybank." However, Trump did not outline how the proposed ban would be enforced. Bombardier responded to the accusation, stating that the company supports tens of thousands of US jobs through its operations and a supply chain of roughly 2,800 American companies across 47 states.

The company also spends over $2.5 billion annually with US suppliers and noted that its aircraft incorporate American-made engines, avionics, and other components. Trump's threat followed Canada's retaliatory tariffs, which will take effect on Tuesday and impose up to 50% taxes on $20 billion worth of US imports. These tariffs encompass steel and aluminum products, as well as dairy goods like cheese.

Ottawa's move was made weeks after Trump imposed a 50% tariff on a comparable value of Canadian goods in response to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's refusal to match US tariffs on China.
