Tour guide stabbed to death near Jaipur’s Amer Fort

A 40-year-old tour guide, Manish Kumar Soni, was stabbed to death near Jaipur's Amer Fort on Monday, ultimately succumbing to his injuries on Tuesday morning, reports indicate. The incident occurred around 9:30 am near Maota Lake when a group of tourists, arriving in a private car, sought directions to Amer Fort from Azam, a jeep driver stationed in the region.

Azam allegedly informed the tourists that private vehicles were not permitted near the fort and suggested they hire a jeep, while Manish provided them with alternative route information, triggering an argument between the two. The altercation eventually led to Manish being stabbed in the abdomen. Manish was rushed to SMS Hospital's ICU, where he later passed away around 7 am on Tuesday.

The news of his demise quickly spread, prompting shopkeepers in Amer to voluntarily shut their market and residents to congregate in the streets. Demonstrations erupted, with protesters staging a sit-in and demanding justice, compensation of Rs 1 crore, and a government job for a family member. Some even demanded the demolition of the accused's residence.

Police presence was increased in the locality following the incident, and the situation was eventually calmed through discussions with the protesters.
