Small fire at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital children’s ward quickly extinguished, no injuries

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 — Staff at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh swiftly put out a small fire involving a respiratory tube dryer in the hospital's paediatric ward on the sixth floor, according to Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad. The incident was reported to authorities at 11.14pm, following which 12 firefighters from the Ipoh Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene.

Upon their arrival, it became clear that the fire had damaged the respiratory tube dryer by just 15 per cent, but fortunately, no one was injured. The fire was promptly extinguished by the dedicated hospital personnel using two CO2 fire extinguishers prior to the arrival of the firefighters. Assistant director Sabarodzi informed that after conducting an assessment, the operation commander tasked the firefighters with ventilating the room by opening the door and monitoring the area to confirm that no lingering hazards could reignite the fire.

The firefighting operation, led by Senior Fire Officer I Mohd Johari Tomin, came to a close at 12.09am.
