Scholar transport driver killed after drop-off in Westbury

A scholar transport driver was fatally shot in Westbury, South Africa, on Monday, following the completion of a drop-off service. The City of Johannesburg's Public Safety Minister, Cllr Moshe Koma, condemned the senseless act, emphasizing the grave concern over the loss of a driver who provides an essential service for children.

Unknown motives were suggested after the driver, approached by two armed assailants, was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. The 53-year-old victim, who had worked transporting individuals globally, including from the United States, was not affiliated with any gang. His cousin, deeply saddened by the incident, lamented that their family is shattered and that their cousin will not see his unborn grandchild.

The family expressed profound grief, highlighting that their cousin was preparing to meet them when he met his untimely demise. Koma urged law enforcement to swiftly identify and apprehend those responsible, emphasizing that no individual should live in fear of gun violence. The community was encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
