Russian drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian capital kill 2 people, ending pause in attacks

Kyiv, Ukraine experienced a tragic turn of events as Russian drones and missiles struck the capital overnight on Tuesday, resulting in two fatalities and ten injuries, according to local authorities. The sudden attack occurred after a brief pause over the weekend, during which U.S. envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff made their first official visit to Kyiv, hoping to broker a resolution to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The State Emergency Service reported damage and fires in five districts of the capital, while the Kyiv City Military Administration noted civilian infrastructure damage in at least 16 locations. One 26-story non-residential building sustained significant damage in the Holosiivskyi district, and a fire erupted at another site within the same district, spreading to a nearby non-residential building.

Rescuers managed to save one person from a search operation and evacuate two individuals from a 16-story residential building. Additionally, individuals were trapped in a five-story residential building in the Solomianskyi district, with at least ten people ultimately rescued.
