Reducing Energy Costs Is Govt’s Top Priority: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized on Tuesday that reducing energy costs is one of the government's foremost priorities as it strives to bolster industry, businesses, and economic expansion. During a meeting with a group of prominent industrialists and business leaders, the Prime Minister outlined government initiatives aimed at enhancing the economy and advancing trade and industry.

He expressed gratitude to the business community for their input during the budgeting process, stating that several of their suggestions were integrated into the national budget. The Prime Minister reiterated that the government is persistently working to lower energy expenses, a matter of critical concern for businesses and industries.

He also reported on the advancement of digitizing the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), noting that the majority of the process has been accomplished. According to PM Shehbaz, the FBR collected Rs. 800 billion through enforcement actions in the previous fiscal year.

The government is also prioritizing the development of a skilled workforce aligned with industry needs, aiming to equip young individuals with market-relevant skills. The business delegation was informed about government measures to strengthen the economy and facilitate businesses, trade, and industry. They were informed about the reduction in port charges at the nation's ports and the improvement in their operational capacity.

Construction of the M-10 Motorway and development of the Pipri Freight Corridor to enhance connectivity between Karachi's ports and inland regions are underway. The Prime Minister also highlighted the construction of the M-13 Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway, which will reduce the travel distance between Lahore and Islamabad. He mentioned that upgrading Pakistan Railways will further enhance the country's transportation infrastructure, enabling quicker movement of commercial goods.

The government also acknowledged the surge in Pakistan's IT exports, crediting their measures for contributing to a record growth in the sector. PM Shehbaz revealed that the government is training 1 million people in information technology and artificial intelligence, aiming to create a workforce equipped to meet the rising demand for digital skills.
