Police Step Up Crime Fight …Suspected Armed Robbers, Including Women, Arrested; Weapons, Ammunition Seized In Intelligence-Led Operations

Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno has announced the Ghana Police Service's intensified efforts to combat criminal networks and apprehend suspects across the nation. Through sustained intelligence-led operations, authorities have made notable arrests, recovered firearms and ammunition, and disrupted organized robbery syndicates.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Yohuno emphasized the police's commitment to bringing criminals to justice, regardless of their location. The police have been monitoring criminal activities in the Western, Northern, Savannah, and Greater Accra regions, leading to the deployment of specialized intelligence teams for targeted operations.

Through these efforts, the police have achieved significant successes, arresting suspects and recovering weapons. Among the breakthroughs, a 32-year-old man named Abraham Awundok has been charged with the alleged murder of Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife, Elizabeth Amuah Esi, who went missing in April 2026. Awundok, who worked as an errand boy for the couple, allegedly killed them with their mobile phones, money, and private vehicle before fleeing to the United Arab Emirates.

He is currently in custody. Additionally, the police have foiled a planned bank robbery in Accra and dismantled a suspected robbery gang in Wassa Akropong. The gang, involved in targeting bank customers and attacking gold dealers, has been dismantled, resulting in the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of weapons and vehicles.
