PM Wong, Chan Chun Sing to address political salaries review in parliament

Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing are set to address a review of political salaries in parliament on Tuesday, September 8. This review has been a topic of discussion for several years, with the last adjustment in political office holders and parliamentarians' salaries occurring in 2011.

An independent committee completed the review earlier this year, but its recommendations were deferred in May due to uncertainty caused by the Middle East conflict. Additionally, the previously scheduled review in 2023 was also put on hold due to geopolitical and economic uncertainties.

The government initially intended to consider the committee's recommendations, but the ongoing challenges have led to the current decision to address the issue directly in parliament. Wong and Chan Chun Sing will provide the government's response to the review's findings, aiming to clarify the situation and outline any necessary adjustments to political salaries and parliamentary remuneration.
