PHCBA condemns Maryam’s remarks on 'threats from neighbouring provinces', demands apology

The Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) has strongly criticized Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's recent remarks regarding threats from neighboring provinces. The PHCBA executive council, chaired by President Aminur Rehman Yousafzai, met on Monday and condemned Ms. Maryam's statement as irresponsible and based on prejudice.

They deemed the comment an insult to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and an attempt to spread hatred and provoke national sentiments. The PHCBA emphasized that national unity and inter-provincial harmony are crucial at this time, and such divisive statements are detrimental to the country's peace and stability. They reminded that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has made significant sacrifices in the war against terrorism, with many civilians and security personnel losing their lives.

The council stressed that terrorism is a nationwide issue, not limited to a particular province, and derogatorily blaming one province is both regrettable and unacceptable. They demanded that Maryam Nawaz issue an unconditional and public apology to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly the Pashtun nation, retract her statement, and acknowledge the immense sacrifices made by the province's people and security forces in the fight against terrorism.

The PHCBA board firmly believes that it is the political leadership's responsibility to maintain national unity and promote respect, harmony, and brotherhood among all provinces and nations in Pakistan.
