Over 160,000 Online Applications Submitted for Admissions in Punjab Govt Colleges

Over 160,000 online applications for intermediate admissions were received across Punjab's 800 public colleges via the Online College Admissions System (OCAS), showcasing an increasing reliance on digital platforms for education access. OCAS, developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Punjab Higher Education Department (PHED), allows students to apply online from home, eliminating the need for repeated college visits and manual admission procedures.

The latest data shows that 109,000 applicants, or roughly 68% of total applicants, were female, with 51,632 applications submitted by males, representing around 32%. FA (Humanities/Arts) and ICS (General Science) programs dominate, with FA receiving 57,096 applications and ICS 54,018, making up approximately 69% of all applications.

Female participation is notably high in these popular programs, with 81% of Pre-Medical applicants being female, followed by 74% in FA and 61% in ICS. Male participation is more common in technical and commercial programs, with FA-IT receiving 7,337 applications, 65% of which were female. Specialized programs like Home Economics, Medical Laboratory Technology, Dental Hygiene Technology, and Physiotherapy Technology have lower application volumes.

OCAS Chairman Faisal Yousaf highlighted that the system simplifies the admission process, reduces wait times, and generates valuable data on educational preferences and enrolment trends. Students can apply through the OCAS portal or PayZen integration for digital fee payments, promoting a more accessible and efficient college admission process in Punjab.
