NNPC disowns fuel truck conveying cannabis

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has rejected a fuel truck with its old logo that was intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo State, carrying 2,145kg of cannabis. NNPC stated in a statement on Monday, as reported by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer Andy Odeh, that the truck, registered as MKA 960 XC, is neither owned by NNPC Ltd nor part of its official fleet or those of any authorized dealers.

The company noted that the logo on the vehicle did not match its current branding, and the truck was not found in NNPC's asset database. NNPC is cooperating with NDLEA and other security agencies in investigating the incident to establish the ownership and operation of the vehicle, as well as how the NNPC markings were displayed on it.

The company has also reviewed its brand-protection and asset-monitoring protocols, and will take appropriate legal action against unauthorized use of its corporate identity. NNPC called on the public to verify the ownership or affiliation of vehicles claiming to belong to NNPC through official channels and commended NDLEA for its vigilance in combating illegal drug trafficking in Nigeria.
