Newcastle battle past Millwall to reach League Cup fourth round

Newcastle secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Millwall in a League Cup match held at The Den on Tuesday, advancing to the fourth round of the competition. Matthias Jaissle's side narrowly avoided conceding a goal in the closing stages, when Millwall's Tairyk Arconte struck the post. The Magpies capitalized on their narrow escape, with Joe Willock scoring the decisive goal in the 81st minute.

Willock converted Lewis Hall's low cross with a deflection, putting Newcastle ahead. Millwall made a late substitution, bringing on 15-year-old Regan Anderson, but Newcastle held on to secure their third-round victory. The Premier League club are currently unbeaten in five matches across all competitions under Jaissle's management, who replaced Eddie Howe in August.

Meanwhile, Marco Rose led Bournemouth to a comfortable 4-0 win over Lincoln at the Vitality Stadium, with Ryan Christie scoring a hat-trick. Crystal Palace defeated Middlesbrough 3-0 at Selhurst Park, with Jorgen Strand Larsen scoring two goals and Daichi Kamada adding a third. Sunderland claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Hull at the Stadium of Light, with Chemsdine Talbi scoring the decisive goal in the 71st minute.

Bradford secured a 3-1 victory over Leyton Orient in the third-tier match, with Will Swan, Stephen Humphrys, and Nick Powell scoring for Bradford. In the third-round ties, Chelsea will face Leeds, while Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool will play their matches next week.
