NDC demands probe over blockade of Peter Obi’s convoy in Benue

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has demanded a probe into the alleged blockade of presidential candidate Peter Obi’s convoy in Benue State. The party's National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, condemned the incident, which prevented Obi from reaching Yelwata community, where he was scheduled to visit families of victims of a massacre that reportedly killed over 270 people in June 2025.

The NDC described the obstruction as disturbing and condemnable, stating that Obi’s mission was not politically motivated. The party called on the Benue State Government and security agencies to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing the importance of human life and safety. Conflicting accounts exist regarding whether authorities were informed about Obi’s visit.

The Benue State Government and the police have not confirmed whether they were aware of the plan, while the police command spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondongu, stated that the reason for the blockade remained unclear.
