DMK enters the fray in Madurantakam and Dharapuram bypolls, likely to make it a three-cornered contest

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami declared on Tuesday that his party would field candidates in the upcoming bypolls for the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies. The general secretary highlighted that the AIADMK had won both seats in the previous Assembly election and had since lost two legislators who resigned due to "horse trading".

These resignations had created vacancies in the two constituencies. Palaniswami criticized Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and his government for not addressing the party's concerns regarding the Police department during an Assembly session. When asked about S.P. Velumani, a legislator from his party, who had praised the government's performance, Palaniswami replied that he did not want to comment further, but noted that the ruling party was attempting to maintain amiable relations with some AIADMK members despite their lack of sufficient strength in the House.

Certain parties that had supported the government are now expressing disapproval of the current administration. AIADMK leader Palaniswami questioned the necessity of implementing a new Secretariat-Assembly project and relocating the Chief Minister’s Office to the tenth floor of the Namakkal Kavignar Maaligai.
