Meta Targets Mass Market Automation With New Muse AI Agent

Meta has unveiled an AI assistant named Muse, aimed at simplifying everyday tasks for the masses, according to a Tuesday (Sept. 8) blog post. This new AI agent, which operates in the Muse app and WhatsApp, is reportedly straightforward to use, allowing users to interact with it as if conversing with another person. Users can assign Muse tasks such as sending emails, booking travel, creating personalized plans based on shared goals, and even handling online forms and negotiations on their behalf.

Muse is backed by Meta's Muse Spark model and operates within a secure virtual machine called Muse Secure VM, ensuring user data and the agent remain safe. Unlike other AI agents, Muse is designed for widespread global use, requiring no prior technical knowledge to operate. It can continue tasks after the user closes the app and notify them if approval is needed for specific actions like emails or purchases.

Meta has integrated Link, a payment solution by Stripe, enabling Muse to facilitate payments at checkout. The company plans to release Muse on iOS, Android, and via its muse.ai platform, with potential expansion to AI glasses in the future. Meta views personal superintelligence as a significant transformative technology, with Muse serving as a starting point for this assistant.

The company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, indicated during an earnings call earlier this year that personal superintelligence is the company’s primary product goal.
