Menjelang pertuduhan esok, anak dakwa Azeez ditahan di Dang Wangi

Former Zakat Fund president Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim's son, Mohamed Khairul Azman, announced his father's arrest at Dang Wangi Police Station and his expected appearance before Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow. This arrest will prevent Azeez from attending the Umno General Assembly meeting with his supporters as originally planned.

Khairul expressed his sadness, fear, and disappointment in his Facebook post, stating that he never imagined his father would face such a situation. He also conveyed his sympathy and lack of desire to expedite or judge the legal process, emphasizing that the case should be handled fairly, transparently, and without bias. Khairul appealed for prayers to provide his father with strength, peace, and relief, as well as to facilitate all related matters.

Earlier, Azeez was reportedly facing charges at Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (MACA 2009). As per the court schedule, he was to be questioned by Judge Azura Alwi at 9 AM tomorrow. In August, Azeez and another former Zakat Fund treasurer were detained for seven days between August 27 and September 2 to assist in the ongoing investigation of the Royal Malaysian Islamic Institution (Jakim) Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the Zakat Fund.

The RCI report, uploaded to Jakim's official portal on July 29, suggested a forensic audit to examine previous investment decisions that led to the Zakat Fund's significant asset value decline. The RCI report also identified several problematic investments for forensic audit and noted the existence of suspicious transactions and information concealment.
