Mahama calls for refereeing reforms, says poor officiating is destroying Ghana Football

President John Mahama has urged for increased financial backing for women's football in Ghana. He argued that despite Ghana consistently pouring more resources into men's football, the women's team has a stronger record in achieving trophies. Mahama noted that Ghana's women have won more trophies than the men, yet the government continues to funnel most of the money into men's football.

This disparity was evident during a recent courtesy call on three local football clubs - Medeama Sporting Club, Nations FC and Ampem Darkoa Ladies - where the President felt Ampem Darkoa Ladies received less attention. He emphasized the need for affirmative action to bridge the gap in support for both men's and women's football.

The President announced that Medeama Sporting Club will receive GH¢342,000, Nations FC will get GH¢228,000, and Ampem Darkoa Ladies will receive GH¢114,000 ahead of their continental campaigns. Additionally, the government plans to allocate funds for the construction of ten new stadia across several regions, and support for athletics, boxing, and other sports when the Sports Development Fund becomes fully operational.
