Islamabad Police equipped with 50 electric vehicles to promote green policing

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially bestowed 50 electric vehicles upon the Islamabad Police on Tuesday, emphasizing the government's commitment to green policing and modernization efforts. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi received the keys to the eco-friendly vehicles during the ceremony.

Other dignitaries present included Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, and other officials.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted that safeguarding citizens' lives and property is the government's top priority. He commended Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for his role in modernizing the Islamabad Police, aiming for the force to set an example for other city departments. The prime minister added that equipping the police with advanced technology, equipment, and resources would enhance the safety of citizens.

The provision of these electric vehicles was specifically aimed at promoting environmentally-friendly policing and reducing the carbon footprint of police operations. Prime Minister Shehbaz explained that the use of electric vehicles would not only lower fuel expenses but also have a positive environmental impact. He noted that the vehicles are expected to save roughly Rs34 million in fuel costs each month, with the cost of each vehicle recuperated within approximately 10.5 months.

The Islamabad Police's Capital Patrol force, established in alignment with the prime minister's vision for a safe, smart, and green capital, comprises 200 personnel, with each patrol unit made up of a male and a female officer. The force will also include motorcycle-riding officers for rapid response and efficient patrolling throughout the city. All Capital Patrol members will be equipped with body cameras to enhance transparency, monitoring, and accountability in policing.

The prime minister expressed his appreciation for the Islamabad Police's efforts to incorporate modern technology and promote green practices, directing authorities to implement further measures to bolster the effectiveness of the modern policing system.
