Huawei unveils Mate XT 2 smartphone with LogicFolding Tau chip

GUANGZHOU, CHINA - 7 September 2026 - Huawei unveiled the HUAWEI Mate XT 2, its latest iteration of the tri-fold smartphone series, on September 7. This marks the first time the LogicFolding Tau (τ) Chip has entered mass commercialization. The phone boasts a distinctive wing-like tri-fold design, pushing the limits of aesthetic appeal and innovation.

Powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 introduces several industry-first features, such as the Xuanwu Ultra-Durable Tri-Fold Architecture, Smart Shield Privacy Screen, True-to-Color Camera 3.0, and HarmonyOS 7 large-screen experience. The phone's tri-fold design, which opens from both sides, provides a more intuitive unfolding experience.

Inspired by Chinese aesthetics, the back panel features a cloud pattern created using Brocade Cloud craftsmanship and is available in three colors: Purple, White, and Black. The camera ring mimics an iconic Star Diamond Glow design, crafted from Yttrium Crystal and fired to 1,800°C. It undergoes eight steps of fine polishing to form 33 star diamond facets, resulting in a dazzling gemstone-like luster.

The device is IP58/59 dust and water resistant, with an Xuanwu Kunlun Glass cover screen that resists scratches and impacts while offering an anti-glare feature for clear visibility under direct sunlight. The main screen uses a multi-layer composite structure, providing robust impact resistance. The phone features the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, offering a 42% performance boost and improved energy efficiency over its predecessor.

The LinxiCore CPU and Ultra-smooth HUAWEI Ark Engine enable faster loading of large files and multitasking. The Maleoon GPU supports 50 MRPS hardware-level real-time ray tracing, enhancing gaming experiences. The HUAWEI Da Vinci Architecture NPU brings on-device AI computing power, supporting large models and native support for the Pangu 30B-A2B MoE LLM.

The phone's innovative heat dissipation architecture efficiently distributes heat across three frames, ensuring optimal performance. Connectivity is enhanced with support for Tiantong satellite communication and Beidou satellite messaging, as well as 32 distributed antennas. The Mobile Security Processor, paired with an independent security chip, enables post-quantum cryptography algorithm detection and has received EAL5+ CCRC security certification, providing robust protection for personal data and assets.

The industry's first foldable Smart Shield Privacy Screen ensures hardware-level privacy protection, featuring an independent dual-pixel design and intelligent sensing capabilities to provide smart reminders when entering airports or train stations. Additionally, the phone includes ECG analysis software, obtaining NMPA Class II Medical Device Registration Certificate status, allowing users to measure heart rates by holding the unfolded screen with both hands.
