Gastkommentar: Die deutsche Industrie braucht einen Energieplan, keine Preisdebatte

Energie serves as the foundation for economic development, a principle that has persisted throughout history. In Germany and Europe, thriving industrial hubs have traditionally emerged where energy is readily available and dependable. Domestically sourced coal, hydropower, and proximity to production and infrastructure all play a role in shaping industrial locations.

Currently, the conversation centers around the competitiveness of the energy supply, primarily focusing on price – understandable, yet insufficient. Certainly, price matters, as it determines whether an investment is made or not. However, reducing the debate in Germany solely to price leads us to a playing field where other regions may have a structural advantage: favorable natural resources or better conditions for renewable energy.

The real question is: How can Germany construct an energy infrastructure conducive to industrial success, even when energy is cheaper elsewhere? This, I believe, is the core of a new economic renaissance. A location decision for the coming decades.
