Former Delhi chief secretary Rakesh Mehta dies by suicide at Noida residence

Rakesh Mehta, a 74-year-old former Delhi Chief Secretary, took his own life at his residence in Noida. Police discovered a note expressing health and mental health concerns as the reason for the tragic act. Mehta's body was found on September 6, and his last rites were conducted on Sunday. Mehta, a 1975 batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service, had a long-standing relationship with the Delhi administration.

Prior to assuming the role of Chief Secretary, he served as Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, handling various civic issues. From 2007 to 2010, Mehta was Chief Secretary of Delhi, overseeing multiple projects in transport, power, and civic infrastructure, primarily preparing the city for the Commonwealth Games.

He was remembered for his dedication to public service and his pivotal role in the successful organization of the games. The police have classified the case as a suicide, based on the note found at the scene and the circumstances of his death.
