Former Delhi chief secretary Rakesh Mehta dies by suicide at Noida residence

Delhi's former chief secretary, Rakesh Mehta, passed away by suicide at his residence in Noida on September 6, according to police. A suicide note was recovered from the scene, and officials have stated that Mehta cited mental and health issues as the reasons for his tragic act. Mehta, a 1975-batch IAS officer, served as the chief secretary for nearly three years during former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit's tenure.

He was 74 years old when his body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his Sector 82 residence in Noida. During his long administrative career, Mehta held several key positions within the Delhi government, including serving as the commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). He oversaw the implementation of various major transport, power, and civic infrastructure projects in the city.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games were held in Delhi while Mehta was in charge. His death has been deeply mourned by former colleagues and members of the administrative community. The police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his suicide is ongoing.
