First National Bank Accra Marathon brings back full race for 2026

The First National Bank Accra Marathon is set to resume in November, bringing back the full 42.2km race and a revised course through Accra. This marks the fourth consecutive year the event has been organized in partnership with the Dansoman Keep Fit Club. The marathon will be held under the theme, "Go the Distance." First National Bank Ghana's CEO, Sylvia Inkoom, emphasized the bank's dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles, resilience, and community engagement.

She highlighted the bank's commitment to fostering healthy communities, nurturing athletic talent, and uniting people.

The most significant change for the 2026 edition will be the new race route, which aims to enhance the experience for both participants and organizers. The route will commence and conclude at the Accra Sports Stadium, passing through some of Accra's key thoroughfares. Benjamin Ahulu, the Chairman of the Dansoman Keep Fit Club, confirmed the return of the full marathon after two years in which a half marathon served as the primary event. He also announced the return of the 10km corporate open race and the junior rising star race.

The expanded program aims to bolster the development of long-distance running in Ghana while providing elite athletes, corporate teams, and young runners with opportunities to compete. Participants will vie for cash prizes, medals, souvenirs, and other awards. Outstanding athletes will also have the chance to secure fully sponsored spots to represent Ghana in international marathons.

Now in its fourth decade, the marathon is Ghana's largest road race, with over 4,000 elite athletes, corporate teams, recreational runners, and members of the public taking part each year.
