Favourite Kane makes Ballon d'Or shortlist

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane is among three England players nominated for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham and Arsenal's Declan Rice are also on the 30-player shortlist, with Kane considered the frontrunner for the prestigious award. Lionel Messi of Inter Miami, aiming for his ninth Ballon d'Or, has been included on the list.

The 39-year-old Argentine retired from international football following Argentina's loss to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final. Lamine Yamal, one of six Spanish World Cup winners, shares the nomination. Paris St-Germain forward Ferran Torres, who joined from Barcelona this summer, and Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr of Paris St-Germain are also on the shortlist.

Arsenal defenders Gabriel and William Saliba are included. Established in 1956, the award will be awarded at a ceremony in London on October 26, commemorating its 70th anniversary and honoring former England player Sir Stanley Matthews. Mbappe expressed his belief that this could be the year he wins the Ballon d'Or. Additionally, goalkeeper Vozinha of Cape Verde and David Raya of Spain are nominated for the men's Ballon d'Or goalkeeper award.
