Education Ministry explains limits on CSSPS placement changes as Category A schools fill up

Hashmin Mohammed, the Press Secretary to the Minister for Education, explained during a JoyNews interview on September 8 that the National Resolution Centre for the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) cannot resolve some placement concerns. This is especially the case when candidates seek Category A or certain Category B schools that have reached full capacity.

The GES stated that these schools are already full, making it difficult for them to accommodate placement change requests. Mohammed emphasized that the Resolution Centre may not be able to assist in such situations, as those schools are showing a red light, indicating full capacity. He explained that Category C schools are more likely to accommodate placement changes as they still have vacancies.

Mohammed cautioned parents and candidates against approaching schools directly to secure places in institutions that have already reached capacity. Schools have been instructed not to admit students outside the CSSPS system, and any student admission must be submitted through the CSSPS to ensure accurate placement data. This directive aims to maintain accurate enrolment figures and support the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme, preventing data discrepancies between enrolment data and CSSPS data.

Mohammed advised candidates to consider Category C institutions with available vacancies for placement changes, rather than pursuing placements in schools that have reached their admission limits.
