E-commerce facilitator ShipStation eyes major global expansion

ShipStation, the leading provider of multi-carrier parcel shipping software for online merchants in North America, is set to expand its international reach through strategic acquisitions and enhancements to its freight transportation capabilities, according to CEO Tom Madine. The company recently launched its less-than-truckload (LTL) freight shipping feature alongside its existing parcel shipping and logistics operations, made possible by the acquisition of Worldwide Express Group recently completed by its private equity owner, Thoma Bravo.

ShipStation currently operates in Canada, the UK, Italy, Spain, and Australia, with its primary users in large enterprises and micro-businesses. Madine expressed the company's ambition to broaden its geographical footprint in Europe and other key markets, targeting the middle market of small-and-medium businesses, where there is a significant opportunity for growth.

The company aims to do so through acquisitions or partnerships, similar to its existing carrier relationships, where ShipStation pre-negotiates rates and integrates with booking sites. ShipStation's unique positioning is its integration of over 400 software connections to parcel carriers globally, allowing businesses, particularly those lacking resources, scale, or expertise, to effectively manage their supply chains without manual carrier negotiations.

The company's recent acquisition of WWEX Group added its portfolio of freight brokerage companies to its operations. Madine also highlighted the company's upcoming plans to add truckload freight and final-mile delivery services, which could benefit businesses across various sectors, including industrial and medical manufacturers.
