CS Joho forms committee to resolve Tata Chemicals compliance issues

Government officials have formed a high-level technical committee to address outstanding compliance issues at Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited, following the company's suspension of operations. Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho announced the committee's establishment at a meeting with Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited executives at his office.

The committee will be co-chaired by Principal Secretary for Mining Harry Kimtai and Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited's Chief Executive Officer Swaminathan Nagarajan. Key areas of focus for the committee include mineral beneficiation, in-country value addition, outstanding community benefits and royalty obligations, unresolved land matters, and opening the area for multiple mineral extraction.

The committee will conduct a thorough technical review of the outstanding issues and prepare a report for consideration and further direction from the Ministry. Joho emphasized the government's commitment to constructive engagement with investors while upholding Kenya's laws, regulations, and the interests of its people. The government's goal is to resolve compliance concerns and establish a sustainable framework for responsible mining, value addition, community development, and mutually beneficial partnerships.
