Cop attacked after suspect accused him of telling mother about drug use

A police officer, 28-year-old Akshay Mahadev Bombale, was assaulted and robbed on Monday night near Pune Railway station. The victim, a constable with the Government Railway Police (GRP), was walking home when he encountered two men, Vicky Patro and Rocky Patro, along with two unidentified accomplices. According to the police complaint filed at Bundgarden police station, Bombale had questioned the suspects about drug use a day prior.

On Monday night, the accused accused Bombale of informing Vicky's mother about his alleged alcohol consumption and marijuana use. This prompted the assailants to berate and threaten to kill the constable. They then proceeded to attack him with sharp weapons, causing serious injuries to his neck and chest. Bombale was hospitalized for his wounds.

During the assault, the accused stole Bombale's mobile phone and gold chain. Authorities have registered a case under various penal provisions, including Section 109(1) for attempted murder and Section 309(6) for robbery. The incident took place near the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (GRP) on the road outside Pune Railway station. CCTV footage and forensic evidence are being investigated.
