Chow told to table bill on equal allocations for constituencies in Penang

Penang's Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has been advised to introduce a bill that ensures equal funding for all constituencies, according to DAP Secretary-General Loke Siew Fook. Loke argued that such a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) law would provide fair treatment to assemblymen, irrespective of their political affiliations.

The DAP's central executive committee believes this principle should be applied at the federal level and across all state governments in the country. All representatives, regardless of their political background, should receive equal CDF allocations. In a previous statement, Chow expressed his willingness to wait for the DAP leadership's decision on enacting this law, following a request from a civil society group.

Currently, the Penang government sets aside RM60,000 annually for opposition assemblymen and RM500,000 for government representatives. Loke announced that the CEC has also decided to table bills on capping the prime minister's term and separating powers between the attorney-general and public prosecutor during the October parliamentary session.

Additionally, the CEC is preparing for the upcoming elections in Melaka and Sarawak. DAP plans to defend its existing seats and explore other potential contesting areas.
