Chongtham Vikram Singh was a peace-loving musician who lived a peaceful life, says wife

On September 7, a 54-year-old Manipuri musician named Chongtham Vikram Singh died after being attacked in Kilokari, southeast Delhi. Singh, who had lived in Delhi for two decades, had gone downstairs at around 11:30 p.m. to ask a group of men to keep the noise down. The men followed him up to his apartment and attacked him, leading to his death. The incident has sparked outrage and protests over safety in the capital city.

Rahul Gandhi, an opposition leader, condemned the home minister's ministry and demanded justice for Singh and his family. The musician's wife, Joshna Chongtham, described her husband as a devoted father and community figure, and emphasized that they were seeking justice, not revenge.

Police have arrested seven men and detained a minor in connection with the assault. Singh's body is currently at AIIMS mortuary and is expected to be flown to Manipur on Wednesday. The killing has triggered a wave of grief and anger from Delhi's Manipuri and Northeast community, with protests and candlelight marches held in solidarity. Community leaders, while cautious, emphasize the need for a fair investigation and accountability.
