Gauteng may bear the brunt of the heat, with temperatures potentially hitting the late 30s, while the Northern Cape could experience the most extreme conditions. Linen, in particular, is being hailed as an ideal fabric for this season, as it is lightweight, breathable, and allows the body to cool down naturally. Benise Spangenberg, head of buying at UNIQ Clothing by Checkers, notes that linen has always been a staple of summer clothing, but this year it is being embraced as an everywear fabric, suitable for work and play.

The trend is moving beyond neutral shades, with richer earth tones and fresh summer colors making a comeback. Chocolate, in particular, is being touted as the new neutral for this season. Linen is being used in a variety of styles, from matching sets and bolder colors to high-waisted bottoms, fitted shorts, lightweight skorts, racerbacks, and longline tops.

For added comfort, breathable undergarments and activewear made from moisture-wicking and thermoregulating fabrics are also recommended. With the weather forecast calling for prolonged periods of heat and little rainfall, staying cool will be paramount.
