Azeez Rahim detained ahead of graft charges, says son

Former Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim has been taken into police custody ahead of anticipated charges, according to his son. Azeez's son, Azman Azeez, announced on Facebook that his father was scheduled to appear at Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court the following day to face allegations of corruption. Unfortunately, Azeez's other commitments, including attending the Umno General Assembly, have been disrupted by this development.

Azman expressed his desire to respect the legal process and refrain from speculating or judging the situation. He emphasized that a charge remains only an allegation until proven in a court of law. According to a court search, Azeez, a former member of parliament from Baling, was due to face Judge Azura Alwi at 9am the following morning.

On August 27, both Azeez and former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Siregar were detained for seven days to aid investigations following the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji. The report, published on July 29, recommended a forensic audit to scrutinize past investment decisions that resulted in a significant drop in the institution's asset value.

Both men are currently under investigation under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009. Azman reported that his father has once again been arrested, this time at the Dang Wangi police station, and is set to be remanded again tomorrow. Azman implored those reading his post to pray for his father, hoping that Allah provides him with strength, peace, and protection. He also urged everyone to pray that the truth emerges in due course.
