Armah-Kofi Buah courts Chinese green technology for Ghana’s mining sector

Zijin Mining Group's President, Lin Hongfu, has expressed admiration for Ghana's business climate and government backing, highlighting the company's profitable expansion into the country. Lin, whose firm operates in 17 nations apart from China, attributed the success of its acquisition and ongoing operations of the former Newmont Golden Ridge Gold Mine at Akyem to the support it received from the Ghanaian government.

During a meeting with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, on September 7, 2026, Lin underscored the importance of the connection between Zijin Mining, the Ghanaian government, and the local populace. Lin emphasized his dedication to fostering a strong partnership with both bodies. He detailed Zijin Mining's commitment to adopting new technologies and management techniques following its acquisition, which he claimed significantly boosted performance.

Lin specifically acknowledged the Minister's role in facilitating the company's entry into the Ghanaian market, describing his visit to the Zijin mining facility in China as marking the inception of the company's growth. Lin credited Zijin's technological advancements, extensive financial networks, global supply chains across its 17 international sites, and skilled workforce as pivotal elements in its growth trajectory.

He also stated that the company aims to ensure a consistent supply of mining experts as its operations expand. Sustainability is a key focus for Zijin, with the company planning to transition to electric vehicles in its mining operations to curb carbon emissions. The company has already made substantial progress in implementing this strategy, positioning itself among the global leaders in deploying electric vehicles for mining.

In terms of Ghana's mining sector, Lin reiterated the company's dedication to local employment and environmental preservation, aligning with its global strategy. Meanwhile, the Minister urged Zijin Mining to deepen its local investments, emphasizing the importance of mutual benefit, compliance with regulations, and contributions to the development of mining communities.
