Alan Jones's former colleague quizzed over 'loyalty' promise

A former colleague of Alan Jones is currently testifying in his trial for indecent assault. The witness, who has been asked to maintain his memory of the events, claims his lack of recollection is genuine. The court heard that the man had texted Jones in 2023, offering to refute any lies made against him. In their messages, the witness called journalist Kate McClymont a "c***," a "low breed," and "pure evil."

The witness admitted he initially had no intention of responding to McClymont's inquiry, but after speaking with Jones, he agreed to help the veteran broadcaster. The trial has heard allegations that Jones kissed and touched a younger male colleague multiple times at work and in his apartment in 2008. Another witness claims he saw the alleged assault during a staff Christmas lunch in 2008.

However, the witness denies having seen any inappropriate behavior from Jones at the lunch and denies making jokes about the complainant being touched. The witness also denied hearing any jokes about Jones giving romantic attention to a younger colleague or making a joke about the complainant being touched. Under questioning, the witness maintained that his lack of memory is genuine and that his loyalty to Jones is of utmost importance to their relationship.
